Born on December 31, 1893 and died on August 30, 1981 in Riga. A distinguished landscape painter. Studies at the Art School in Penza, Riga City Art School (1911-1916). Member of the Riga Artists' Group (1919-1939 ). Painting professor (since 1944) at the Art Academy of Latvia (1925-1981). Ubans was basically committed to painterly rendering of natural motifs and studies of nature. As early as in the 1920s, his style acquired remarkable stability and maturity within the context of poetic painterly realism. His landscapes captivate with harmonious coloristic tonality and richness of texture.
